OUR TUTORING SERVICES ARE NOW ONLINE!
We are VERY excited to announce that ALL Australian students, regardless of where they live, are now able to access our academic tutoring services! Feedback from our recent online tutoring trials indicated that both students and parents prefer Optimise Learning’s online tutoring sessions, to the traditional face-to-face tutoring model.
IN A NUT SHELL…
OUR STUDENT FEEDBACK: Our students said that they found it easier to concentrate and stay focussed in online tutoring sessions. They also told us that they enjoyed learning using a computer to converse with their tutor, and that not having to travel to a tutoring centre was ‘really awesome’!
“I love working with my tutor online. I sit on the verandah at home during my tutoring lessons. I used to have to travel to tutoring; it took a long time to get there because of the traffic. I love tutoring now”. Daisy ( Year 5 student), BRISBANE
OUR FEEDBACK FROM TUTORS: During our trials tutors found that students were more focussed, energised and engaged during the online sessions, and as a result more curriculum content could be covered in each session.
“I have found my students to be more engaged, tuned in and focussed during the online sessions, than they were during our face-to-face sessions. I just think students enjoy working on a computer, and because they are wearing headphones, all outside noise is eliminated which makes it less distracting for them. The software platform we use at Optimise Learning works really well, making it easy to teach online.” Michael (Optimise Learning certified tutor), MELBOURNE
OUR PARENT FEEDBACK: Initially some of our parents were reticent to consider online tutoring for their child. Many parents couldn’t explain why, but they just felt more comfortable with the traditional face-to-face model of tutoring. However it is very interesting to note that every parent whose child participated in our online tutoring trial, has chosen for their child to have online tutoring, instead of face-to-face tutoring, from now on. Once parents saw first hand how Optimise Learning’s online tutoring sessions work, they could see how effective and convenient this tutoring model was. Also, many parents enjoyed being able to ‘discreetly’ listen in to their child’s session, which isn’t as easy for parents to do when their child attends a tutoring centre, or is visited by a tutor at their home.
“We embarked on the online tutoring sessions with Optimise Learning and we have found them to be incredibly successful. Peter is engaging and motivating and our son has found the sessions to be both valuable and enjoyable, so much so that he now prefers them to the face-to-face tutorials.
Communication via Optimise Learning’s online platform has proven to be very easy and effective. As a family we have gained an afternoon at home which allows the rest of the family to continue with their own pursuits without interruption and the sessions are flexible enough to accommodate unexpected changes in routine if and when they arise. Online tutoring with Optimise Learning has been a worthwhile and rewarding experience and one we will continue to pursue”. Merissa (Parent), SYDNEY
STUDENT PROGRESS We can report that the trials revealed our online tutoring programs are as effective for improving and advancing student’s skills, knowledge and understandings as our face-to-face tutoring programs are.
OPTIMISE LEARNING ONLINE TUITION PROGRAMS
Our team has developed a range of online tuition options for the 21st century student. These include:
- Individual tutoring in a variety of subject areas
Students learn individually with an Optimise Learning certified tutor. Weekly sessions are of 30 minutes duration. Optimise Learning communicates with each student’s teacher to ensure what is being taught during tutoring is extending upon what the student is learning at school. Optimise Learning’s teaching materials are based on the Australian National Curriculum, exactly the same curriculum that Australian students are studying at school. Parents can read about their child’s tutoring sessions, by logging on to our Parent Portal.
- ‘Get Ready…Get Set…For The New School Year’ Program
Students revise main elements of the previous years curriculum, individually with an Optimise Learning certified tutor. Students participate in 5 consecutive 30-minute revision classes that are scheduled towards the end of the Summer school holiday break. The feedback we have received from parents and teachers, indicates that students who completed our ‘Get ready…Get set…For The New School Year’ program, started the new school year feeling prepared, positive, confident and ready to learn new material. Students felt as though they had been given a head start.
- The Discoverers Online Club and The Inquirers Online Club
Our online clubs are scheduled on the weekends and during the school holidays. They appeal to Primary School aged students, who enjoy the challenge of problem solving activities. Students who join this club, will learn in collaboration with up to three like-minded students, and an Optimise Learning Certified Tutor. In each session, the emphasis is on fun, collaboration and authentic learning. Participation will provide students with the opportunity to develop their creative and critical thinking skills and academic perseverance; competencies which are crucial to success at school and beyond.
- Intensive Tuition Programs
Our intensive tuition programs are designed to accelerate student learning in a specific curriculum area or topic. Students participate individually in 5 consecutive 30-minute lessons, that are facilitated by an Optimise Learning certified tutor. Intensive Tuition Programs are scheduled during school holiday breaks and appeal to students who are considered to be performing below expected standards in a subject area, or to students looking for an opportunity to be extended in a specific subject area.
- Early Reading Support Program
Home reading is an integral part of the school reading program, particularly when a young student is learning how to read. Teachers rely on parents to hear their child read daily, particularly when students are just beginning to read. Daily reading practice is vital to a child’s early reading and literacy development. However, understandably many parents are not sure of the best way to help their child, when they come across an unknown word in a book. When you are just beginning to read, there are SO many unknown words to deal with! Also, assisting young students to learn their sight words can seem like a nightmare for some parents. Our Early Reading Support Program assists young students who are beginning to learn to read. Students read individually to an Optimise Learning certified tutor, and practise learning their sight words. Sessions are of 30 minutes duration, and are scheduled weekly during the school term.
