Let our expert Maths tutors assist your child to develop their confidence and improve their school achievements in Mathematics!

Is your child receiving the grades they are capable of achieving at school? Is your child falling behind in Mathematics, with their marks and overall confidence declining?

## How Do Individualised Mathematics Lessons’ Assist Students?

School offers students the opportunity to be social, and lessons are usually taught to large class groups of students, who have a variety of learning needs. However, in one-to-one tutoring lessons, the learning needs of the individual student is the primary focus of the teacher, and students study in an ideal learning environment, that is free from classroom distractions. Individualised tutoring usually leads to improved marks, which assists students to feel more successful, motivated and confident in their abilities.

Students and their tutor can cover a lot of Mathematics content in a 60 minute tutoring lesson, particularly because there are no other pupils to distract them from the student’s learning.

### High School Mathematics Tutoring from Year 7 to Year 10

In secondary school students are developing their knowledge and skills in the areas of number, algebra, measurement, geometry, statistics and probability.

The proficiency strands of understanding, fluency, problem-solving and reasoning are an integral part of the mathematical content in the high school years also.

Extra assistance at this stage can prime your child for success, improve their confidence and motivation levels, as well as their school achievements.

Choosing to use an expert tutor means that your child will be better positioned to keep up with the many assignments (and expectations) that they are presented with in high school. Optimise Learning’s tutors can assist your child to perform at a higher academic level, and prepare them for the senior years of school.

### Mathematics – Year 07

By the end of Year Seven, students are expected to be able to make the connections between whole numbers and index notation, and the relationship between perfect squares and square roots. They connect the laws and properties for number to algebra. Students solve simple numerical problems involving angles formed by a transversal crossing parallel line. They determine the sample space for simple experiments and assign probabilities to likely outcomes. Students calculate the mean, mode, median and range for data sets. The third year of NAPLAN provides insights into individual student’s progress and highlights areas that require support or extension.

### Mathematics – Year 08

By the end of Year Eight, students are expected to be able to solve everyday problems involving rates, ratios and percentages. They use efficient strategies to carry out the four operations with integers, and simplify a variety of algebraic expressions. Students identify conditions for congruence of triangles and deduce the properties of quadrilaterals. They solve linear equations and graph linear relationships on the Cartesian plane. Students perform calculations to determine perimeter and area of parallelograms, rhombuses and kites. They convert between units of measurement for area and volume.

### Mathematics – Year 09

By the end of Year Nine, students are expected to be able to apply the index laws to numbers and express numbers in scientific notation. They record binomial expressions. Students find the distance between two points on a Cartisian plane, and the gradient and midpoint of a line segment. They calculate the area of shapes, and the volume and surface area of prisms and cylinders. Students use Pythagorus’ Theorem and trigonometry to find unknown sides of right-angled triangles. They construct histograms and back-to-back stem-and-leaf plots. The fourth year of NAPLAN provides insights into individual student’s progress and highlights areas that require support or extension.

By the end of Year Ten, students are expected to be able to expand binomial expressions and factorise monic quadratic expressions. They solve simple quadratic equations and pairs of simultaneous equations. Students use triangle and angle properties to prove congruence and similarity. They list outcomes for multi-step chance experiments, and calculate quartiles and inter-quartile ranges. The Ten A content is optional and designed for those students requiring additional content to enrich and extend their mathematical learning, whilst they complete the common Year Ten curriculum.

### Mathematics Tutoring for Students Completing Year 11 and Year 12

The senior years of school, often referred to as the ‘business end’ of schooling, is where tutors can support their students by assisting them to gain a deeper understanding of subject content, and also teach them how to interpret and respond to assessment tasks. A qualified and experienced tutor can assist students to maximise their academic potential, achieve higher marks and an improved exit score.

In the senior years of school, students can opt to complete Essential Mathematics, General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics. Whilst these Mathematical subjects might have different titles in different Australian states or territories, the content of each Maths subject is exactly the same in every state and territory. Every Australian student is learning exactly the same curriculum; regardless of where they live or which school they attend.

Regularly accessing one-to-one tuition with a specialised tutor can make all the difference. Our tutors tailor lessons to specifically address the areas where students need the most assistance. Tutors with experience in teaching HSC, IB and ATAR are able to help students navigate the most critical, challenging and stressful years of their academic life.

Homework, assessments and examination preparation can be daunting for both students and their parents. Highly specialised, individually planned and well resourced one-to-one tutoring sessions will provide students with the ideal context for them to communicate comfortably with their tutor about their learning. Students can feel ’embarrassed’ to seek assistance from teachers in front of their peers at school, and often feel more empowered to seek the help that they need from their tutor.
