Millions of students throughout Australia will soon be completing the 2024 National Assessment Program-Literacy and Numeracy, assessments that are more commonly referred to as NAPLAN. Since its inception in 2008, NAPLAN, managed by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) has tested Australian year 3, year 5, year 7, and year 9 students in four primary areas.
Student achievement is measured against national outcome-based education standards in:
- Language Conventions
Whilst it is acknowledged that NAPLAN does not replace ongoing assessments and teacher monitoring of student progress, NAPLAN does provide schools, educational authorities and governments with a snapshot that shows whether Australian students are meeting expected standards in literacy and numeracy.
Some schools create opportunities for students to complete practice NAPLAN tests, whilst others do not. This is why many parents contact us at Optimise Learning to organise tutoring lessons or their child in the lead up to the NAPLAN tests, or enrol their child in our PREPARE FOR NAPLAN workshop programs.
Imagine how a student might feel if they are seeing and experiencing a NAPLAN test for the first time on testing day. Preparing for NAPLAN can give students the confidence and strategies they need, to ensure their test performance really is an authentic reflection of their current skills, knowledge and understandings and not adversely affected by nerves or not understanding how to go about completing the different tests/question types.
Students benefit enormously from being prepared for NAPLAN. By completing practice tests students become familiar with the format of each test, they learn to manage the time restraints of each task and experience the various types of questions within each assessment.
Optimise’s tutoring for NAPLAN and PREPARE FOR NAPLAN workshop programs ensure students can approach each assessment confidently as they know exactly what to expect. Our parents have told us that they want their children to be familiar with each test format, know what to expect in terms of time constraints and understand how to approach each different question type.
By developing their test-taking skills, students are also preparing for the different types of assessment tasks they will regularly face throughout their school life.
By participating in our PREPARE FOR NAPLAN workshop programs, students become familiar with the format of each test and the different types of questions they will encounter on each test. Students also will complete simulated practice tests.
Help your child to do their best, and to feel positive and confident about NAPLAN by enrolling them in our PREPARE FOR NAPLAN programs today. Check the dates and times of our PREPARE FOR NAPLAN programs on our event calendar.
